What's New in the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 for Truck Buyers
The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a complete redesign, and Chevrolet has been busy. There are new V8 engines, a more powerful TurboMaxâ„¢, larger screens, additional off-road hardware, and more standard driver-assistance technology. The lineup has also been trimmed to 7 models, while maximum trailering capacity rises to 13,700 lbs. For Mesa, AZ, truck buyers, there's considerably more going on here than a fresh grille and a new set of headlights.
Three of the Four Engines Get Major Changes
The upgraded 2.7L TurboMax™ now produces 350 hp and 455 lbs. ft. of torque, increases of 40 hp and 25 lbs. ft. of torque from the previous version. Better still, the old 8-speed automatic has been replaced by a 10-speed. The 3.0L Duramax® Turbo-Diesel continues with 305 hp and 495 lbs. ft. of torque. Chevrolet has also introduced 2 new V8s: a 5.7L producing 402 hp and 428 lbs. ft. of torque and a 6.6L generating 481 hp and 501 lbs. ft. of torque. All 4 engines now work with 10-speed automatic transmissions.
The Towing Number Now Starts With 13,700
The new 5.7L V8 delivers the Silverado's highest published trailering figure. A properly equipped Double Cab 2WD with the Max Trailering Package can tow up to 13,700 lbs., while the equivalent 4WD configuration reaches 13,600 lbs. The Duramax® can pull up to 12,000 lbs. in Crew Cab 4WD form with the Max Trailering Package, while the TurboMax™ reaches 9,400 lbs. in its highest-rated configuration. A TurboMax™ Regular Cab 2WD also carries a published base payload rating as high as 2,340 lbs. As ever with trucks, the configuration behind the headline number is important.
The Dashboard Has Become a Wall of Screens
Every 2027 Silverado receives a 16.3-inch center display and 12.2-inch Driver Information Center as standard. High Country and ZR2 add an 11.5-inch passenger display, Head-Up Display, and Rear Camera Mirror, helping push combined digital display area beyond 60 inches. That's a lot of screen for a pickup, but Chevrolet hasn't forgotten storage. The available Multi-Flex Center Console offers configurable space and can fold into a work surface, while available dual wireless charging can accommodate 2 compatible devices simultaneously.
Super Cruise® Reaches More of the Range
Super Cruise® with trailering capability is standard on High Country and ZR2 and available on Silverado and Trail Boss. With a compatible trailer connected, it can provide hands-free driver assistance on compatible roads while the driver remains attentive. Every 2027 Silverado also receives Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Zone Steering Assist, Front and Rear Park Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Safety Alert Seat, and an HD Rear Vision Camera. New standard systems include Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, Side Bicyclist Alert, and Reverse Automatic Braking.
The Lifted Trucks Get Bigger Tires
Custom Trail Boss, Trail Boss, and ZR2 form the Silverado's 3-model factory-lifted group. Trail Boss combines a 2-inch lift with 34-inch MT tires and monotube shocks. ZR2 takes another step with exclusive 35-inch MT tires, a 2-inch lift, Multimatic® DSSV dampers, hydraulic jounce control dampers, and front and rear electronic-locking differentials. In other words, the off-road upgrades aren't confined to black trims and an adventurous badge.
Ten Models Become Seven
The new lineup consists of Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, Silverado, Trail Boss, High Country, and ZR2, with Silverado replacing the previous LT nameplate. Chevrolet has also reshaped the exterior with new LED lighting, a larger grille, and stronger wheel-opening and rocker treatments. Apex Red, Pacific Blue Metallic, and Trillium Green Metallic join the color selection.
